Time to Burn It Down or Time to Create a New Vision?

How do you know when it’s time to burn it down or time to create a new vision?

It’s not an easy decision or one to be taken lightly because its impact ripples out from you. And yet the decision is yours alone.

Lately, I’ve noticed a rash of entrepreneurs who have built multi-million dollar businesses realizing that what they’ve built isn’t what they want.

It’s kind of surprising that there have been enough in the last few weeks to make me wonder if this is the newest marketing hook. But I don’t think it is. It could be contagious though.

Once a few people start talking about how they aren’t happy with the business or the life they have built, it shines a light that others can look at their life or business to see if they too might be building a ladder against the wrong building.

Even as someone who has consciously created my life for more than 4 decades, I’ve made a few missteps when I was younger, realizing I didn’t know myself well enough or deeply enough to course correct.

Then I hear others begrudging people the right to make those shifts like it damages the industry if someone “on top” isn’t happy. Is it one of those “the emperor has no clothes” issues. Or. Is it that they are just afraid to look t their own life and business.

Time to Create a New Vision

Everyone has a right to decide it’s time for a change. Life is always shifting and changing and I think it’s up to us to be aware and recognize it’s time before it affects our health and our relationships, the things that really matter.

There are a couple things to look at here:

First…

Your business is not responsible for your happiness.

Too many people put all their hopes and dreams into building a business that makes a certain amount of money, whatever that number is for you.

As these people who are backing off and regrouping have found out, money is not the answer.

People are happiest when they are sharing their gifts, doing the work they are meant to do.  If managing a bunch of employees doesn’t sound like the kind of work that makes your soul sing, don’t build that kind of business. The money isn’t worth it.

The surprising thing is that you can make plenty of money, more than enough money doing what you love if you take the time to zero in on what that truly is.

Money as a goal in and of itself is meaningless. YOu must know what you want it for and you must know when enough is enough.

To know that you have to be clear on what you want your life and business to look like.

Second…

Working on your mindset is not enough.

Yes, you must have a positive attitude to be happy. You can cultivate an attitude that will open you up to more wealth flowing into your business.

But, that on its own isn’t enough.

You still have to figure out what you want your life and business to look like from a deeper place than you’ve ever looked before.

The reason you aren’t happy and fulfilled after building a great income or developing a great attitude is because you haven’t taken the time to really do the deeper work of getting to know who you really are, stripping away all the masks we wear in our society of who we think we are supposed to be. Get down to a soul level and discover what your passion and life purpose is. Then you can look at what you want your life to look like.

First, you have to create an environment where you give yourself permission to create a lifestyle that gives you joy and peace in your soul. Then building a business with ease can flow out of your life, rather than building a business that takes over your life.
