Manifesto Definition
What exactly is a manifesto? You may think of a manifesto written by someone who is making a defiant statement. Your personal manifesto is made up of statements that define who you are and who you want to become.
I call them your value statements. They clarify what is most important to you in your life. What you value, what your principles and integrity are based on. Also what you stand for, and even more importantly what you won’t stand for.
One of the most important things I’ve done in my business was to create a guide for creating your own personal manifesto.
I created it as a free gift to give away when people checked out my 1st program, “Change One Thing, Change Your Life”.
It turned out to be the most important document of my life and over the years it’s been downloaded by more than 25,000 people from all over the world.
So today I wanted to take the opportunity to tell you a little more about it.
Why the Free Guide to Creating Your Manifesto Is Going Away
After giving this guide away since 2001, it came to me in my meditation the other day that it would be more impactful, meaning people would actually use it if I charged for it and did a class built around it.
Before I do that, you can still have the guide for free.
I really can’t tell you what a huge impact creating this document will have in your life. You’ll have to see for yourself.
But think about it…if It wasn’t, why would I spend so much of my time trying to convince you to do it?
Why You Must Create Your Own Personal Manifesto
As I mentioned, your manifesto is a series of very personal statements clarifying what you stand for in your life as well as what you won’t stand for. They are the value statements that define who you are and who you want to become.
Having a personal manifesto helps keep your focus on who you really are and your purpose in life. In 2001 I created my personal manifesto as a printed certificate with a personalized logo and I put it up on the wall in front of my desk.
You may be wondering why it’s so important for to have some kind of measuring stick, such as a personal manifesto, to use in your decision-making process for personal growth and professional development.
Wouldn’t your life be easier if all you had to do when you were making a decision was look at a few statements and you’d quickly know if the decision you were about to make was in alignment with who you are and what you want your life to look like?
You can also create individual manifestos for specific areas of your life.
Here are 2 Examples
At a conference, I met a man who was extremely successful at predicting the futures market, which is a part of the stock market.
He felt he was really successful in just about every area of his life except for his weight. He was extremely overweight.
He had gone to see his mentor in person, and they had a conversation where his mentor asked him, “What are your rules about your weight?”
He thought about it, and he realized, “Okay. I’ve been so successful at my work because I have clear-cut rules on how I do everything in my business.”
He also quickly realized that he had never set up any personal development rules about what his health was supposed to look like.
He had a vision and an action plan in every other area of his life, and, surprise, the one area of his life that wasn’t working was his health and his weight.
So he went home from that meeting and spent several hours writing out what he wanted his health to look like; much like a personal health manifesto.
He decided he was going to lose 70 pounds in 70 weeks, without starving himself or being on a diet.
This is only possible because he established a plan, an outline of what health looked like to him, and what he would and wouldn’t have in his life pertaining to his health.
That’s what your personal manifesto does.
It’s the rules you’ve set for yourself to be who you are.
It’s an easy reference point for you.
When something comes up and you aren’t sure what to do, you can look at your personal manifesto and see if it fits with what you wrote.
It won’t be long before you don’t have to look at your manifesto at all. It will become a natural part of your internal decision-making process for personal growth and professional development.
One multi-millionaire friend of mine mentioned she was setting up a new real estate investment partnership. She talked about the rules they set for how they were going to find properties, who the partnership would acquire them with, and how they would sell them.
That is her investing manifesto!
Success Comes From Clarity
Everything you want to be successful at needs a set of rules or guidelines that you follow so you have a way to determine your level of success and a way to judge opportunities as being a good fit or not for your personal growth and professional development.
You don’t have to call it rules.
If you have a problem with the word rules you can use guidelines, blueprint, roadmap, or whatever you want to call it.
Creating a personal manifesto is the first step in deciding what’s most important to you. For your overarching personal manifesto, a more accurate description would be you are creating value statements that you live by.
