3 Day Vegan Detox Cleanse

3 Day Vegan Cleanse Detox

I had been searching for a good 3-day vegan detox or 3-day vegan cleanse for a while. Good ones aren’t that easy to find. Some are straight juice and smoothie cleanses and too calorie restricted for most people. Some are too heavy on fruit and don’t have enough greens and fat to be a healthy detox plan.

So I searched and searched for something I could share with you that would be healthy, easy to follow, and without weird ingredients you can’t find at your local grocery store.

A couple of things to keep in mind are that you can always make substitutions for similar foods, and to buy organic where you can.

Make sure to drink water all day long. Try to drink a gallon a day while on the detox.

Having juices in the morning and smoothies later in the day is good if you have had a bad diet and may have a digestive track full of gunk. Juices don’t require the amount of work to digest that smoothies made with whole foods do.vegetable juices, vegan cleanse

If you feel really weak like you aren’t getting enough food, or if you’re a really big person and need more calories, you can add a scoop of protein powder to your smoothie. You could add some avocado or nut butter to your snack. Try really hard to keep your food choices clean these 3 days.

You will be amazed how much lighter you feel by the end and how much clearer you are thinking. You may also notice you have energy. You could certainly lose a few pounds, depending on how you normally eat.

After this 3 day detox, you will be well on your way to a healthy ageless body.

Making this Cleanse Vegan or Not

***The 2 protein smoothie recipes call for egg whites, which of course are not vegan, and greek yogurt. If you are doing the vegan detox version, make your substitutions. Do your favorite substitution for egg whites where listed, and also the yogurt. I would use a scoop of vegan protein powder and coconut yogurt.

Once you’ve completed this vegan cleanse diet, you can continue with clean eating recipes you’ll find on my Pinterest boards Healthy Salads, Healthy Soup and Juicing and Smoothies. It’s all part of your ageless lifestyle after 50.

I started with the framework of the 3-day cleanse from SugarFreeMom.com

I’ve made slight changes to some of the recipes. Use the version you like. I share mine changes after the original cleanse.

This is a very simple cleanse that won’t leave you as hungry as a juice cleanse.

For the non-vegan cleanse substitute grilled or baked skinless chicken breasts or fish for the beans. 4-6 ounce servings depending on your size.

If there is anything you are allergic to or have a medical condition that prohibits you from eating, make a substitution or leave it out.

My 3-Day Vegan Cleanse Recipe Changes

I made my grocery list and went shopping. It cost me about $15 for the ingredients for this 3 day cleanse. Now that I’ve completed it I have plenty of leftover spinach. I bought an extra cucumber because I thought I might want a snack, but I didn’t.

My Breakfast Smoothie:

green smoothie, spinachIngredients

  • 1 Granny Smith apple
  • 1 cup spinach with stems
  • 1 stalk celery
  • 1/2 cucumber
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1 tablespoon flax seed (ground)
  • 1 teaspoon bee pollen
  • 1/2 frozen organic lemon
  • 1 1/2 cup ice
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  1. Blend all ingredients in your high powered blender until smooth.
  2. Taste and adjust sweetener if needed.
  3. Makes 32 ounces.

I don’t use sweeteners. The extra cup of water makes it easier to drink because it’s not so thick. I added a tiny bit of bee pollen for an extra boost. It tastes like apple and lemon with a hint of greens. If you wanted to add some mint, I don’t think you would taste anything green at all.

I freeze whole organic lemons and cut sections of it off to put in my smoothies every day. I also grate it and add it to my dog’s food. There is a lot of nutrients in the peel you don’t normally get when you use lemons.

Why go on a vegan cleanse now?

Any time you’ve been binging it’s good to do a cleanse. If you’ve been getting less exercise and you’re gaining weight, it’s a good time to do a cleanse.

I have been eating out more than normal. My routine has been interrupted, which for me means I’m not exercising. And I’m under more stress.

What that has translated to is not sleeping well and gaining weight.

I’m a small boned, 5’2″, 61-year-old woman. I’ve gained 4 lbs, which is a lot considering I have weighed the same amount fluctuating no more than 2 pounds for 9 years.

I have a scale that measures percentages of fat, muscle, water and bone density. Because of my size, I’ve always paid close attention to these things.

One thing that I’ve noticed is there is a direct correlation between water percentage going down and fat going up. That means that if I don’t drink enough water, my body responds by storing fat.

Right now my fat is higher than it has ever been and my water percentage is lower than ever. I drink a lot of water. I’m always drinking something 24/7. In the summer we lose more water with the heat. So the one thing we can do to help ourselves stay hydrated is to make sure you’re drinking at least half your body weight in ounces of water.

How much water should you drink on a cleanse?faucet, fountain, water dispenser

If you weigh 100 pounds, you need to drink 50 ounces of water, minimum. 200 pounds, 100 ounces of water. I said minimum because for my body, during this time of year, I need to drink more.

Here’s a short video giving you a visual of how you can drink this amount of water with various servings of different beverages throughout the day.

My 3-day cleanse routine:

I have 16 oz. glass of room temperature water in the morning when I wake up with slices of lemon and a little cayenne pepper. You don’t need to add the cayenne, but it boosts your metabolism. You’ll be surprised how quickly you get used to the added kick.

Then I have my smoothie which is filled with veggies and fruits. They have water content I don’t count. I add 12-16 oz of water or coconut water to my smoothie.

While I’m drinking my smoothie my 32 oz. pot of green tea is steeping. It steeps for at least 30 minutes because of all the herbs and spices I add to it.

Before I even get to lunch I’ve had 64 oz., which is a half gallon, of water. See how easy that can be?

I’m not adding any protein powder to my smoothies because this is a detox and I want to stick with the fresh fruits and veggies.

I wasn’t able to eat lunch until about 6 hours after breakfast and I wasn’t overly hungry.

Lunch Healthy Collard Green Burritos Recipe Changes:

Ingredients

  • 4 large romaine leaves
  • 1 cup black beans, canned, drained
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 clove minced garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 Roma tomato diced
  • 1/2 avocado diced
  • 1/4 cup spicy hummus (red pepper or chipotle)

Directions

In a small bowl add your black beans, seasonings, veggies, and hummus. Mix together well. Divide mixture among 4 romaine leaves and place in the center of each. Roll up the bottom, fold in the sides, then top. Enjoy! Makes 4 burritos.

Serves 2* (2 burritos each)

Here’s my dinner recipe:

Ingredients

  • 1 c. uncooked quinoa
  • 1/2 c. cherry tomatoes, sliced
  • 1/4 c. red onion chopped
  • 1 c. chickpeas, cooked
  • 1 avocado, chopped
  • 1/4 c. lemon juice
  • 1/2 c. fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tsp. salt and pepper
  • 2 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil

Instructions

  1. Place the 1 cup quinoa in a pot with 2 cups of water. Bring it to a boil then reduce to simmer. Cover and cook 15 minutes till all the water is gone. It should look translucent. See the picture in this post if you’re not sure its done. No need to drain.
  2. Add all ingredients to the quinoa in a large bowl, except avocado, oil and lemon juice.
  3. Use a mini chopper or mash the avocado by hand in a bowl and mix in olive oil and lemon juice. Mix into quinoa and add salt and pepper to taste.

Day 2 Vegan Cleanse

Breakfast smoothie: Grapefruit Veggie Lime Juice

green, smoothie, drink

  Ingredients

  • 1 pink grapefruit, peeled, sliced
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 1 red pepper, cored, stem removed
  • 1/2 lime, skin removed

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a juicer or high powdered blender.
  2. Makes 24-26 ounces.
  3. Serve on ice!

I was a little worried about this recipe because I don’t like celery or red pepper and without greens to hide the taste, I thought I would hate it. But it only had a slight red pepper taste. I didn’t like it enough to have it again though.

Lunch was the same as yesterday except I made the romaine into a salad and added 2 additional leaves of romaine. It was like a taco salad with the spicy chipotle hummus.

Dinner was the same as yesterday with the addition of 1/4 cucumber. The other thing that I changed was instead of blending the avocado with the oil and lemon, I just mashed it up together in the bowl and stirred it up before putting the other ingredients in. That saved me cleaning the mini-chopper.

Day 3 Vegan Detox

Today I changed day one’s smoothie a little bit more:

I changed it to:

Ingredients

  • 1 Granny Smith apple
  • 1 cup spinach with stems
  • 1 stalk celery
  • 1/2 cucumber
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 tablespoon flax seed (ground)
  • 1 tablespoon chia
  • 2 teaspoons bee pollen
  • 1/2 frozen organic lemon
  • 1 1/2 cup ice
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Blend all ingredients in your high powered blender until smooth.
  2. Taste and adjust sweetener if needed.
  3. Makes 28 ounces.

I used a couple big handfuls of spinach so it may have been more than 1 cup. It tasted more lemony today. I was a little hungry this morning, but not too much. I realized that my stomach rarely growls. I don’t think I often get to the point of my body wanting food before I eat again. That’s something interesting I learned from doing this detox cleanse.

I also noticed that I was feeling full halfway through my smoothie this morning, where normally I can drink 32 oz with no problem.

I am a creature of habit and it’s not a problem for me to eat the same thing for 3 days. It makes the shopping list shorter. It makes it easier than having 3 new recipes each day. Since it’s only 3 days, I really wasn’t worried about getting a fuller range of fruit and veggies.

Caution: As with any change in diet, it is recommended that before beginning the cleanse & detox you check with your doctor. If you are allergic to any ingredients do not include them in your cleanse.  You may use an alternative.

Hi, I’m excited to try these recipes as I detox often and know the benefits. I have searched the link you provided fit the tea from Dr Oz but can’t seem to find it on his post. Could you please tell me what it is and also what the 32oz tea you make that you mentioned in your 3day plan. Thanks so much for all the effort to put this information together.
